Upon customer's request

content till 0.04-0.8%
b) With average oxygen
content – 0.12-0.15%
c) With general oxygen
content in titanium ingot and titanium slab according to ASTM
requirements.

Metallurgical plant will have possibility to melt slabs of
nearly 12 000 kg mass.
It is the same situation
with titanium ring, titanium flanges, titanium disks, titanium
squares, and titanium billets. Depending on diameter
of titanium ring,
titanium flange, titanium disk, titanium square or titanium
billet it is taken corresponding diameter of titanium ingot or
the specific size of titanium slab.
In case titanium ring,
titanium flange, titanium disk, titanium square or titanium
billet have to have mechanical properties so titanium ingots or
titanium slabs do not suit for them we should manufacture them
from titanium bar both forged titanium bars and hot rolled
titanium bars.
We melted titanium ingots
with length 1000mm and more. The new facility will be
able to melt titanium ingots up to 4000mm in length.
Titanium slabs and
titanium slab is subdivided into following:
a) titanium slab or
titanium slab by width
b) titanium slabs or
titanium slab by thickness
c) turned or not turned
titanium slabs / titanium slab
Titanium slabs and
titanium ingot, are produced in different weight.
The weight of titanium
ingots produced by us before weighted 700 to 3200 kg. With new
melting furnace we will have possibility to melt ingots of
nearly 12 000 kg mass.
The main parameters of
titanium slab and titanium ingots, depend on market demands.
For production of titanium bars the most suitable will be
titanium ingot ô
370mm, for rolling of titanium sheets and titanium plates the
ingots with ô
630-860mm are the best choice. Moreover titanium sheets and
plates are better manufactured from titanium slab and titanium
slabs.
The market dictates to
manufacturer of titanium slabs and ingots that it’s cause
repartition of consumption market of titanium slabs and titanium
ingots:
a)
titanium slabs
will be used only for production of titanium sheets and plates
b)
titanium ingots
from production market of titanium sheet and plate
c)
titanium ingots
take niche only for production of titanium bars, titanium tubes
where titanium slabs cannot be used
d)
titanium slabs and
ingot have common market of repartition- this is titanium ring,
titanium billets, titanium flanges, titanium disks. Depending on
their parameters titanium slabs or ingots or titanium slab and
ingots could be used for production.
Very often customers
require titanium ingots Ti6Al-4V
ô
200-250mm. Usually, such titanium ingots are used in production
of titanium golf clubs instead of more expensive titanium bars.
Depending on materials
sizes customer needs different titanium slabs by width and
length.
For example, Japanese
manufacturers of titanium materials-titanium sheets, plates and
also sheets in coil need different titanium slabs by width and
length. So they manufacture titanium sheet in coil 600mm and
more. For this reason they need different size slabs by width.
Such titanium slab is needed for Japanese and Italian
manufacturers for production titanium coil sheet. Globalization
forces manufacturers of titanium slabs to specialize in
production of titanium slabs by width or to have various
crystallizers for production titanium slabs in depend on market
of coil sheet and in the end the exact sizes of titanium slabs
will be produced.
FIKO’s new melting
facility is also purposed for melting titanium slabs.
Titanium slabs will be
produced in following dimensions

Titanium slabs will be
supplied either in turned (machined) condition or with
non-machined surface.
FIKO metallurgical plant
manufactures titanium ingots both turned and not turned with dia
370, 400, 450, 510, 600, 630, 800 mm and titanium slabs both
machined and non-machined and supplies such titanium ingots and
titanium slabs to the market of Asia, Europe and America.
The control of quality of
titanium slabs and ingots, titanium slab and ingot start with
titanium sponge, titanium scrap and titanium cuttings quality
control.
In manufacture of
titanium slabs, titanium ingots, titanium slab, titanium ingot
the following grades of titanium sponge are used TG-90, TG-100,
TG-110, TG-120, and TG-130 and in exceptional cases TG-150.
Titanium sponge should be supplied in pressurized drums and
accompanied by quality certificate. The customer orders titanium
ingots, titanium slabs, and titanium slab and titanium ingot
with low or high oxygen content. Before melting of titanium
ingots or titanium slabs, titanium sponge should be pressed and
sorted in accordance to customers’ demands regarding oxygen and
iron content. The chemical composition of titanium sponge is
checked by analyses and if the results conform to the figures
indicated in certificate, the sponge is used in production of
titanium ingot, titanium ingots, titanium slab, titanium slabs.
In case we have to melt
titanium ingots or titanium slabs, titanium ingot or titanium
slab with high oxygen content 0.20-0.25%, then TiO2 is added to
titanium sponge while pressing. After that titanium sponge is
prepared for melting. After the titanium sponge are ready for
melting it is passed from preparing raw material section to
melting section of titanium ingots or titanium slabs.
At our plant titanium
ingots, titanium slabs are melted by electron-beam method.
The process of
manufacture of titanium ingot, titanium ingots, titanium slab,
titanium slabs is rather laborious and difficult because there
are no companies in Ukraine who could supply titanium scrap in
prepared for melting condition.

titanium ingots and titanium slabs depends on the quality of
titanium scrap.
Our workers have to check
every piece of titanium scrap since if the preparing division of
titanium scrap make mistake so titanium ingot, titanium slab
will be produced with the same chemical composition as titanium
scrap.
Take into account a high
coat of titanium slabs and ingots and also weight of titanium
slab and ingot so the mistake may cost expansive.

preparing of titanium scrap for melt of titanium slabs and
titanium ingots permanently.
FIKO metallurgical plant
usually melts Ukrainian titanium scrap into titanium ingots and
titanium slabs only of VT1-0, VT6 and PT3V grades, because in
melting titanium scrap consisting of the pieces of titanium
bars, sheets and plates some part of alloyed elements are burned
out and it is necessary to add the ligature. That’s why the
production of titanium ingot, titanium ingots, titanium slab,
titanium slabs in OT4, OT4-0, OT4-1, VT3-1, VT5-1, VT14, VT16,
VT20, VT22, VT23, PT1M, 5V alloy, PT7M is not profitable.
That is why we are
interested in ASTM GRADE 1, ASTM GRADE 2, ASTM GRADE Ti6AL/4V
scrap for production of titanium slabs and ingots.
Moreover, titanium ingots
and titanium slabs in OT4, OT4-0, OT4-1, VT3-1, VT5-1, VT6,
VT6S, VT14, VT16, VT20, VT22, VT23, PT1M, 5V alloy, PT3V, PT7M
should be double melted but it is not mean that titanium slabs
cannot be produced from alloys for one melting.
This is the reason we are
interested in partners from Europe, Japan, South Korea, and USA
who supply titanium scrap (remains of titanium bars, titanium
sheets and titanium tubes) ASTM Grade-1; Grade-2; Grade-3,
Grade-4; Ti6Al/4V; Grade-5; Grade-9.
Titanium scrap from
titanium bars, titanium sheets, titanium plates, and titanium
tubes should be sorted and prepared for melting and supplied
with quality certificate.
The best scrap for
melting titanium ingots and titanium slabs if the scrap from
titanium sheets and titanium plates, because titanium scrap from
titanium bars and titanium tubes cannot be piled into melting
boxes tight enough. The scrap from titanium sheets and titanium
plates is preferable because one melting yields of titanium
ingot or titanium slab from sheets plates scrap is more than
from scrap of bars and tubes.
After melting of titanium
ingot or titanium slab it is cooling stage. Then titanium ingot
or titanium slab is turned. While turning the test samples are
picked out for analysis of chemical composition of melted
titanium ingots or titanium slabs. Titanium turnings taken from
definite titanium ingot or titanium scrap are forwarded to
laboratory for analysis. Ultrasonic testing is carried out only
for titanium ingots and titanium slabs with mechanically turned
(machined) surface. In certificate for such titanium ingots or
slabs we make a mark about ultrasonic control. In case
customer’s demand is titanium ingot or titanium slab is with
non-machined condition it is supplied without ultrasonic
testing.
Finished production –
titanium ingots and titanium slabs – are forwarded to the stock
where all titanium materials are stored. In certificate for
titanium slabs, titanium ingots and titanium slab and titanium
ingot the following information is indicated:
